The Cape’s high school VEX Robotics teams are celebrating a successful and inspiring 2025–2026 season, showcasing the power of hands‑on STEM learning and regional collaboration. Across Cape Cod, robotics clubs continue to engage students in engineering, programming, and problem‑solving while fostering teamwork, creativity, and perseverance—skills essential for the next generation of STEM leaders.

Throughout the season, Nauset, Monomoy, Dennis‑Yarmouth, and Mashpee proudly hosted VEX Robotics league competitions, expanding access and strengthening a shared commitment to innovation and student growth across the region.

Monomoy Robotics: Depth, Achievement, and Consistency

Monomoy Regional School District – Robotics had an outstanding year, engaging 32 students across 10 robots at both the middle and high school levels.

Middle School Team (Grades 6–7): 14 participating students and 5 robots participated in five leagues and tournaments throughout the season. All five teams qualified for and competed in the Middle School State Championship.

High School Team (Grades 8–12): 18 participating students and 5 robots competed in four tournaments, winning two tournament championships. 2 teams qualified for and competed in the High School State Championship

Monomoy’s success this year reflects strong technical skills, effective teamwork, and a consistent focus on learning through iteration and competition.

Mashpee Robotics: Leadership, Growth, and Recognition

Mashpee Middle-High School Robotics continued to expand its impact and visibility during the 2025–2026 season. 24 students in grades 7–12 participated and competed in four leagues, four full‑day tournaments and hosted two league events and one full-day competition, helping strengthen the regional robotics ecosystem. Teams advanced to State Championships and earned several prestigious awards during the season, including Tournament Champion, Robot Skills Champion and Judges Award.

These achievements highlight both competitive excellence and the communication, documentation, and professionalism emphasized by VEX Robotics.

Dennis‑Yarmouth (DY): Progress Through Collaboration

Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Robotics experienced a season of strong growth, particularly with the addition of many new students. Across leagues and tournaments, teams demonstrated steady improvement, earning multiple semi‑final and final appearances.

One standout team, 2664Y, earned the Judges Award during league play and went on to win the Design Award at a tournament—an accomplishment that qualified them for the Regional Championship.

Four teams competed in three leagues and two tournaments with two additional teams participated in one league. Overall, 14 students competed, with five additional students involved through the robotics club.

DY’s season was marked by teamwork, persistence, and a strong commitment to collaboration across schools.

Nauset Robotics: Hosting, Innovation, and Student Leadership

Nauset Regional High School Robotics played a key leadership role in the region by hosting the Terkanian Cape Cod VEX Robotics League during December and January. This league brought together 17 teams from local Cape Cod schools, including Monomoy, Mashpee, Dennis‑Yarmouth, and Cape Cod Technical High School, fostering collaboration and shared learning across districts.

Nauset fielded two teams in the league, both of which showed tremendous dedication and measurable improvement throughout the season.

Notably, Nauset’s all‑senior team, Terminal Senioritis (Team 94802A), earned the Innovation Award in recognition of their robot design and an excellent judge interview. Their achievement reflects both technical skill and professional communication. Coaches also proudly recognized the significant skill development demonstrated by the underclassmen team as they progressed through the league.

Cape Cod Technical High School: Third Year Growth

This year marked Cape Tech’s third year participating in VEX Robotics, and the program continues to grow in both experience and achievement. Cape Tech fielded three robotics teams this season, two of which were competing for the first time.

One of the first-year teams, The Weakest Link, was made up of five sophomores. The team participated in one league competition and two weekend competitions, earning a spot at the State Competition in Framingham this March based on their Skills score at the Nauset League.

The second first-year team, Minifridge, consisted of two sophomores and one senior. They competed in two league events and two weekend competitions this year. While they did not advance to the State Competition, the team gained valuable experience and laid a strong foundation for future seasons.

The team with the most success this year was SlipGear, a group of four juniors who demonstrated strong teamwork and technical skill throughout the season. Below, SlipGear shares highlights from their VEX Robotics experience and reflections on their successful year.

This is our second year as a team and this year has been our best. I think we have grown a lot as a team especially throughout the year as a whole. Whether this was driving and building techniques or just communication and team skills. While we are still learning all those skills I think this year we have used them to the best of our ability. We have had 2 leagues, 1 signature event and 5 competitions. We’ve made it to States both years and even though we didn’t qualify for Worlds through states, we got invited this year. One really big competition we had was the signature event at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). This was our first signature event and we honestly did really well especially for our first signature. At the signature competition we were able to beat the state’s best teams 99% (8889A) and ALL ON RED (2982X) and place at the Semifinals. Even though we didn’t win the competition, we learned a lot from it. We met so many people from all over and it helped us get our name out there to other teams. Getting our name out into the world ended up helping us with future competitions and a lot of teams around the state started to recognize us. This helped us with alliances later in our year and I genuinely think that event was one of our biggest achievements throughout the year. It doesn’t go unnoticed either.

People see how hard we work and I think that was one of the reasons we got invited to go to Worlds. We had several issues that affected our performance at States and we didn’t make it to the elimination round. However, the efforts of our team was noticed and we received the Judges award. The Judges award is awarded to teams who “display special attributes, exemplary effort, or perseverance at the event. Stand out to Judge volunteers as being deserving of special recognition, and Team Interview demonstrates effective communication skills, teamwork, professionalism and student-centered ethos.”

Now, it’s just onward from there. We are heading to St. Louis, Missouri for our first World Championship. There will be 868 teams all around the world competing which means new experiences, meeting new people and giving this competition our all. We are all very excited for this big competition and just the journey itself and we can’t wait to see where the rest of this year takes us and just see what we are capable of next year!

Strengthening a Cape Cod Robotics Community

Beyond competition results, the 2025–2026 season demonstrated the growing strength of the Cape Cod Robotics Consortium spearheaded by the dedicated coaches and teachers. By hosting events, supporting one another, and collaborating across districts, schools continue to raise the bar for robotics programming while building a connected and supportive STEM community.

This work would not be possible without dedicated support of teachers, coaches and judges and the generosity of donors like the Ernest Michael Helides and Evelyn Ponticos Helides Education Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation.

As the season concludes, we celebrate not only awards and championships, but the curiosity, resilience, and innovation demonstrated by Cape Cod students—and we look forward to building on this success in the seasons ahead.
